Quake 4 on linux (how-to)

Just do like Id tells you on this page and you have Quake 4 on your linux box. Have fun!

Back on track

Ha ha finally i start to get some time over for home hacking. I have started with a new python project. I will not tell you what it is until it looks like I have something that work.

Lately I have been a bit lazy when it comes to blogging. This is partly because I have been playing around to much with Battlefield 2 and Quake 4.

Ahhhh I almost forgot that my age is i++. I became 28 the 14:th of October.

Master thesis formally accepted

Last week I found out that my thesis was accepted. GOOD STATUS! I would have written this earlier but I have worked 70 hours this week and ... bla bla bla. Time to rest.

Accepted slashdot submission

Got a story, about Linus wanting money for the Linux trademark, accepted today at slashdot. Well I am on Linus side if anyone wants to know. Hate to admit it but it is fun when your slashdot submission is accepted. A couple years ago I got another submission about the importance of being debian accepted. Debian rules!

pyguest 1.3 (continued)

Well I will continue from my last post. The documentation I added concerns the different url:s that are used for the pyguest plugin. I must have been quite tired when I wrote those parts of the documentation because nothing was correct. Sorry for that. The other issue was that I added the base_url template variable (found in config.py) to the pyguest_form template. Unfortunately I did an crappy work documenting this new template variable. I only mention the variable in the change log of pyguest.py. Sorry for that =).

Time to go and watch TV.

pyguest 1.3

Finally i have had time to do some work! Ok, it is a minor update of pyguest.py. I have made the documentation more clear on some points regarding the URLs and I have added a template variable. Thats all. Well, I will probably write more about these changes tomorrow.

Python on .net

Well well well ... IronPython make python go .net! Hmmm have to try it before I can say if it is a good thing or a bad thing.

Quote from IronPython's home page: IronPython is the code name of the early pre-alpha preview release of the new Implementation Running on .NET of the Python programming language. It supports an interactive interpreter with fully dynamic compilation. It is well integrated with the rest of the framework and makes all .NET libraries easily available to Python programmers.

Almost disaster!

A couple of hours ago I thought that I destroyed the order of my blog. Pyblosxom uses the files time stamp to sort the blog items (usually). Well to make a long story short I succeeded to set all files to the current date. I must thank my friend (and web hotel provider) Ludde that he had backups. From now on I will name my files better. The blog entries should have names based on dates instead of anything else. And I will use cp (the copy command) more carefully =).

Master thesis done - Quality time with my blog

Finally some prime time with my blog. A couple minutes ago I updated pyblosxom from 1.0 to 1.2.1 and everything works.

My master thesis is finished and I have had my opposition seminar. However the thesis is not formally published yet. But when it is you will find it here.

Gentoo (and debian) rules

Mmmmm this was a nice weekend. I installed Gentoo Linux on my P4. Best Linux I tried on the client side. Two words: BUILD WORLD (it takes time but it is worth it). Mmmmm binaries optimized for my computer! Everything is source, so I needed to bootstrap the system. However, after building the kernel with agpgart and ATI fglrx support I had no problem building x.org and start it with full RADEON support. Mmmmm FPS!

Even if Gentoo is very good I don't see the pros of using it for my server at home. The server must be easy and fast to maintain (and does not need fancy GFX) therefore I stick to Debian there (apt-get rules!). However I think Debian is to conservative when It comes to other stuff. Try finding the fglrx driver (for my RADEON 9800 card) or x.org in their package list =).

Fixing a development environment for pyblosxom

Hello all! It looks like I have not been doing my blog duties lately =). I have not done any private programming! There are several reasons for this and it has to do with that time is a resource that I don't have a lot of right now =(. I study two C++ courses at the same time. I study a C++ basic course at the same time that I study a C++ advanced course. The good thing is that the courses are arranged by my employers and they allow me to use some work time for the C++ studies. I have also visited a lot of relatives lately, which of course have taken a lot of time. Moreover, there have been a lot of stuff to fix at home. However, I have not been completely useless. I have started to set up a development environment at my home for building and debugging pyblosxom plug-ins. I think it will be ready this weekend.

More to report on the life front is that I have bought the special edition of the movie Azumi.
